This represents an instance of a Connection Definition from the Connection Library. A connection pairs a specific field device with a connection definition. This paring contains all the information necessary to contact the field device, read or write the data, and map it to DeltaV IO cards.
Remove this instance of the connection definition from the field device. This does not affect other instances of the connection definition.
This gives the connection instance a new name. This name is unique to the instance; it does not affect other instances of the connection definition.
This is used to change the Description and Connection Library Definition associated with this connection. This also provides a shortcut to changing the connection definition. Any changes made to the connection definition will be reflected in all instances of the connection library definition.
The following parameters are unique to each connection in VIMNet Explorer.

This optional field should be used to give a helpful description of the purpose or destination of this connection.
This defines the Connection Definition from the Connection Library that this connection will use. Thebutton in Figure 1 is a shortcut to edit the connection definition. Any changes made to the connection definition will affect all connections that use the selected definition.
Some connections require a port and slot ID to access a specific module in a chassis. This slot ID can be entered into the connection definition, or it can be different for each instance of the connection. If it is configurable for each instance of a connection definition, then the Slot ID drop down list (Figure 1) will be enabled.
This is useful when connections are almost identical, except for the slot ID. This might occur when using devices such as Allen Bradley Point IO. In that device, each module uses a different slot ID. A connection could be created for each module, then the slot ID can be customized for each connection instance, allowing for multiple Point IO devices to share common connection definitions, but have different module layouts.
This option is enabled when the Configurable check box is enabled in the connection definition.

Some connections require a DH+ Extended address. This address is configured on the parent field device. See DH+ Extended Address for additional details. If the address is required, a notification will appear on the dialog, as shown in Figure 2. If no DH+ extended address is required, the connection properties dialog will appear as shown in Figure 1.
This parameter selects the Class 3 interface that will be used for this connection. See Maximum Class 3 Interfaces for additional details.
